You voted Yes!!!The Mansfield BID vote is a success!
Businesses in the town centre have voted in favour of taking their future into their own hands by setting up their own Business Improvement District (BID). The postal ballot finished at 5.00pm on Thursday 11th March, it was counted by Electoral Reform Services, and the result declared the following day by the Managing Director of Mansfield District Council, as the official “ballot holder”.
The details of the final vote are:-
- 55% by number in favour of setting up the BID
- 65% in favour by aggregate of Rateable Value
- 44% turnout
John Sankey MBE, Chairman of the BID Steering Group that has masterminded the development process over the last year commented: "This is exciting news! It is a great day for all who own businesses here, work here or visit Mansfield for shopping, leisure or business. I am delighted with this result and the prospect of what the BID will bring to the town over the next five years.
This is the start of a whole new future for the town centre as we create a mechanism that has the potential to lift Mansfield into a new league as a lively, friendly shopping destination where all our businesses care for their customers. We want a reputation for quality customer service, value for money and a brisk, business-like approach to the way the town is run.
It is now up to all our businesses to ensure that the benefits that the BID will bring are used to their own best advantage in exactly the same manner as the other 95 BIDs are doing around the UK. We look forward to working closely with our many friends and partners to maximise the unique opportunity we now have within our grasp.”
To be successful, more than 50% of those taking part in the ballot had to vote in favour, and the total rateable value of those voting “yes” had to be greater than those voting against it.
The BID Company will formally commence its first year programme in June with board elections in the three month period after that.
Thank you to all the businesses that voted
