Flying the Purple Flag for Mansfield once again
October 3, 2017

Mansfield has once again retained its coveted Purple Flag status, confirming the town centre’s reputation for excellence in managing the evening and nighttime economy.

After in-depth reviews and assessments, Mansfield first got its Purple Flag status in 2015, and, in order to retain it, has to submit reports on how it has further improved and how Purple Flag status has benefited the town centre.

The Purple Flag panel met on September 21 to make a final decision on all the recent Purple Flag submissions and confirmed that Mansfield has now received its Interim…

Show off your magnificent flowers, veg and fruit at Mansfield Garden and Craft Festival
May 31, 2017

If you’ve grown giant carrots, huge cauliflowers, large leeks, or lanky parsnips, then Mansfield’s Garden and Craft Festival Open Show is where you should be showing your produce.

And the call for entries is coming from green-fingered Joe Atherton, and he knows a thing or two about prize-winning veg.

From his garden in Mansfield Woodhouse, Joe has produced vegetables that have broken world records. The retired miner has at different times held nine records, the certificates hanging proudly in his home.

He still holds four world records.

“When it comes to large veg, there’s no judge. The scales and the tape measure do not lie,” said Joe.

“The person who says it is all about the taking part has never won. People remember the winners.

“We need to encourage more and more people to get into growing and showing their vegetables. Mansfield is a good show so hopefully a…
