Mansfield, where customer service is a priority

Businesses, shops and leisure providers in Mansfield town centre have been honoured for their commitment to delivering excellent levels of customer service.

Mansfield BID (Business Improvement District) ran an initiative whereby participating organisations were graded by an independent company on their levels of customer care.

Mystery shoppers were sent in to assess matters such as store appearance, local knowledge, customer experience and staff image.

Following the assessments, participants were awarded either bronze, silver, gold or platinum accolades.

Bronze winners were: Pandora, 4Rooms, Carousel Sweets, The Court House, and Greenwoods Menswear.

Silver winners were: Mansfield Building Society, Meadow Nails, Store 21, Nottingham Credit Union, Barclays Bank, Boots, Mansfield Bus Station, Campions, Capo Lounge, Dorothy Perkins, The Easy Barber, Futures, Game, Games Emporium, Jak & Daisy, Laura Ashley, Alterations and Creations.

Gold winners were: Mansfield Museum, Moss & Co, Music Scene, Need 2 View, Queens Café and Bistro, Sankey Estate Agents, The Shiny Spoon, Sky Retail Pod, Swintons, The Village Activity Centre, and Leigh & Co.

The top accolade, Platinum, went to: Ann Summers, Belvoir, BonMarche, Collections High Street, Duffy Opticians, Fidler & Pepper, Four Seasons Customer Service Desk, The Glazey Place, Povey Antiques, Quiz, Sally Twinkles, Debenhams, Harmony Health, FA Henshaws, Inplace Personnel, Lloyds Bank, Lucy’s Café, Mansfield Computer Store, Marks & Spencer, The Nottingham, Palace Theatre, Pinders, Thorntons and Vision Express.

Feedback from mystery shoppers included: “The staff were really helpful – one staff member wasn’t sure on directions so asked a colleague who was able to help.”

Another wrote: “The store was very clean, tidy and organised. The products were all on shelves and price tags easily seen. I walked around the store, past staff members, but I wasn’t approached. I approached a member of staff who stopped what they were doing to give their full attention and were very helpful and able to give directions.”

Sarah Nelson, chief executive of Mansfield BID, hosted the awards. She said: “This is brilliant for Mansfield town centre and shows that our businesses deliver great customer service.

“The initiative also saw large national chains and smaller independent organisations taking part. Mansfield has a lot to offer and this is very clear demonstration of that.”

The awards evening also saw Sarah say a tearful goodbye to many people, as she is leaving her post mid-October.

John Sankey, BID chairman, said: “It was a really good event as usual, and it’s good to be in a room of people really wanting their organisations to succeed and for Mansfield town centre to thrive.”
Participating organisations will receive feedback and a report of their assessment so that they can further improve what they do.
